Built with physio practices in mind
Nookal is the third practice system RIFT connects to, after Zanda and Cliniko, and it was next for a simple reason. When we looked at the websites of around 200 Melbourne clinics earlier this month, Nookal ran roughly one clinic in five but close to one clinician in three, and nineteen of the twenty physio practices we found. Bigger teams, more rooms, more appointments a week - and more places for money to quietly go missing between the treatment room and the bank.
What RIFT finds in a Nookal account
- Sessions completed but never invoiced. The appointment happened, the invoice never did.
- Cancellations and no-shows never charged. A late cancellation is one made inside 24 hours of the start time. If your policy says it is billable and nobody billed it, RIFT lists it.
- Overdue invoices, chased for what is still owing. RIFT uses Nookal's own balance on each invoice, so a part payment is taken into account and a third-party payer is picked up from the invoice itself.
- The things reception already wrote down. "Paid $50 cash" typed into an appointment note is exactly how money skips the invoice. RIFT reads those notes and flags them before anything is chased.
Nookal's own reports will show you uninvoiced bookings. What they will not do is keep watching every day, add up the no-shows and the overdue balances alongside them, and send the polite follow-up email for you. That is the job RIFT does.
Connected in minutes, current every day
Create an API key in Nookal, paste it into RIFT, and your first sync runs on the spot. From then on RIFT refreshes itself once a day, so an uninvoiced session surfaces in the week it happened rather than whenever someone next runs a report. Money that goes missing quietly is easiest to recover while the appointment is still fresh in everyone's memory.
Live data is also what makes chasing safe. RIFT's chase emails - the courteous follow-ups on invoices past your own payment terms - run from today's numbers, not last month's spreadsheet, and they stop the moment Nookal shows the invoice paid. Every finding is a list for your team to action; nothing is sent without your say-so.
Read-only, and honest about the edges
RIFT only ever reads. It never adds, edits or deletes anything in Nookal, and treatment notes are never requested. One thing worth knowing: Nookal does not offer read-only API keys, so any key has full access to the account. We say that plainly because you should hear it from us - leave Clinical Notes and Documents unticked on the key, and delete the key in Nookal whenever you want the connection to end.
There are a few checks RIFT runs on Zanda that it cannot run on Nookal yet: funded sessions left unbooked, payments that were never allocated to an invoice, and Medicare claims that never came back. Class bookings are skipped too. The full side-by-side is on the RIFT page and in the help centre, and we will update this post as each one lands.
Already on RIFT with another system?
Switching is now self-serve. Connect Nookal in Settings and RIFT asks once, closes the old system's open items as "practice software changed" without counting them as recovered, and finds your leaks again from Nookal. Nothing you dismissed or noted is lost.

In Nookal, go to Setup, then Connections, then API Keys, and generate a key. Tick your locations, tick Invoices, switch Status on and save.
